Legends of Action: Mel Gibson

BirthDate:  January 3, 1956

Mel Gibson first rose to fame as “Mad Max” Rockatansky but would go on to be known for another role as the “Lethal Weapon” Martin Riggs.

Gibson started his action career off early, when in 1979 he took the lead role in Mad Max, which he later would return to for two sequels. While enjoying the fame that came with the Mad Max trilogy, Gibson also took smaller, more personal roles in truly underrated gems like Gallipoli and The Bounty. Then in 1987, no sooner than he had just finished his last film as one action hero, he accepted his most notorious role in Lethal Weapon as another action hero.

The Lethal Weapon franchise became a huge success, spawning three sequels over the years.

He enjoyed a stretch of at least 20 years in the spotlight with movies peppered in between the Lethal Weapon franchise, he was the hottest name in Hollywood. Some other essentials for any Mel Gibson fan would have to include Payback, Tequila Sunrise, Ransom and Conspiracy Theory.

Since the mid-nineties Mel has proven that he is just as amazing behind the camera as he is in front. He has directed many critically praised and box office successes, such as Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.

Mel’s personal life has unfortunately put him in the spotlight more than his talents have in the last few years. But, after a very respectable turn in Get the Gringo, The Expendables 3 and Edge of Darkness fans are excited for his upcoming biker movie Blood Father. I am currently reading the novel of the same name which is phenomenal, so I can’t wait to see the movie. He also has a war movie coming up called Hacksaw Ridge so let’s hope it puts him back on top.
