Verdict
Summary
Despite Scott Adkins’ involvement Incoming is rather dull with little in the way of action for the first half and it’s not a movie I’d watch again. I’d probably give it a miss.
Plot: The International Space Station is now a prison — the ultimate black site. No one’s getting out. And no one knows it’s there. But when the imprisoned terrorists take over the Station and turn it into a missile aimed at Moscow, only a shuttle pilot and a rookie doctor can stop them. Their task is complicated by a rogue CIA agent (Scott Adkins) who has his own plans for the station and the terrorists within.
Review: Incoming is Scott Adkins latest movie and currently available on iTunes; I didn’t even know it was out until the other day so i figured I would check it out. We are big supporters of Scott’s work here at The Action Elite and consider him one of the last few action heroes however, you always should be honest when reviewing movies and for me Incoming is one of his lesser movies to date.
It didn’t start off well with an incredibly cheap looking CG explosion as Big Ben is attacked by terrorists which could have been a cool scene if it looked remotely convincing.
Basically as with so many VOD movies the movie is primarily let down by its budget; there are some interesting ideas and as usual Scott is the best thing about the movie. You aren’t quite sure if his character is a good guy or bad guy as his methods are rather brutal. He literally takes no prisoners and any time he faces of against any of the escaped cons he makes sure they don’t leave alive.
The first half is rather dull with little in the way of action but the final half hour has some pretty decent fight scenes including a knife fight which is arguably the action highlight.
*Mild Spoiler ahead* I hated the character of Stone (Michelle Lehane) who is responsible for the prisoners escaping and it bothered me that she survived the movie as she was totally unsympathetic.
I thought the villains were relatively interesting and you could almost see their angle as they had been tortured and abused by their captors.
The film was very grey looking too so it was just drab to look at with little to keep your eyes interested in what was going on; perhaps the grey was deliberate to demonstrate the shades of grey in the characters which was certainly the case. I also struggled to make out what people were saying a lot of the time however, I am losing my hearing so that would account for it.
Overall, Incoming didn’t really look great from the trailers so it’s not much of a surprise that the film has come and gone without a trace. Even as a die hard Scott Adkins fan there isn’t much to recommend aside from a few fights towards the end. I would watch Lockout or Fortress 2 instead…
