Under the Dome (2013) TV Pilot Review

Plot: In Chester’s Mill, Maine, a strange occurrence locks the town in under an invisible dome-like surface.

Review: So the new Stephen King story Under he Dome just premiered last night and I have to say that it’s the best new show on television. You’ve already got some great characters introduced, including the always awesome Jeff Fahey… although he may not have a big role in the show.

Although there wasn’t much in the way of action, it was certainly very tense and I love a show with some mystery; I’ve never read the book so I am going into the show fresh and so far I like what I see.

I’m hoping that it doesn’t descend into utter ridiculousness and the show ends with a giant octopus destroying the town or something… actually that would be awesome but you know what I mean. So many Stephen King stories start off well and are ruined by either stupid monsters or just silly endings.

The one thing Stephen King knows how to do is create memorable characters and I think Under the Dome is going to have some great ones. The two stand outs for me are
Mike Vogel who plays Dale ‘Barbie’ Barbara and Alexander Koch who plays Junior Rennie, the resident psycho of the small town. I love the way he’s introduced where you think he’s sort of the nice guy, gentle guy but it ends up that he’s actually a bit of a nutjob.

The best moment was when the dome first appears and a cow is cut in half in a rather gruesome fashion; it was King at his best and really bodes well for an exciting new show.

So far Under the Dome has captured my attention and hooked me in; roll on next week.
