Aah the 80’s when every TV show had an amazing theme tune or introduction; there are almost too many to choose from and I probably could do a top 50 rather than a top 10 but I narrowed it down to my personal favourite intros.
What are some of your fave 80’s TV show intros?
10. MacGyver
“Don’t thank me, thank the Moon’s gravitational pull!” MacGyver, was there anything you couldn’t do? The theme tune is so very 80’s and his mullet even moreso but that’s part of why we love it.
9. The Fall Guy
Heather Thomas in a bikini… there are stunts and explosions too but… that’s all we need.
8. The Equalizer
This show remains a gritty gem and this intro is darker than the usual 80’s fluff I mention in this list. Expect a review for The Equalizer in the coming weeks.
7. T.J. Hooker
The music may not be all that amazing but it plays over action scenes and Heather Locklear dressed as a stripper and in a bikini… what’s not to love?
6. Battlestar Galactica
Cashing in on the success of Star Wars Battlestar Galactica remains one of my favourite themes which sounds majestic, heroic and just plain awesome.
5. Knight Rider
Everything about this theme oozes cool; the cool synth, the car K.I.T.T. and of course The Hoff and his manliness. Classic stuff.
4. Magnum P.I.
Cameron reviewed this series a few weeks back and my favourite aspect of the show was the electric guitar theme tune… closely followed by Tom Selleck’s mustache.
3. Miami Vice
Jan Hammer’s music for the Michael Mann TV series is packed with awesome synths and electric guitars with images of beautiful people, fast boats and action. I approve.
2. Airwolf
One of the greatest TV show themes of all time, I’m surprised there hasn’t been a reboot of Airwolf with a modern spin but as it is it still is one of the coolest theme tunes ever.
1. The A-Team
After all these years that theme tune makes me shout “Hell yeah!” every time I hear it; it promises heroics, action and just a sense of good old-fashioned fun. Also if they ever did a reboot am I the only person who thinks Mel Gibson would make for a great Hannibal?
