7 Seconds (2005) Review

Summary

7 Seconds has a few enjoyable action scenes and fights with Wesley Snipes as entertaining as ever, but some of the supporting characters are annoying so it’s not one I return to often.

Plot: When an experienced thief accidentally makes off with a Van Gogh, his partner is kidnapped by gangsters in pursuit of the painting, forcing the criminal to hatch a rescue plan.

Review: Wesley Snipes stars is one of his forgettable but still entertaining DTV era movies, 7 Seconds where he plays a thief whose big job goes very wrong when he accidentally steals a Van Gough painting. His partner is kidnapped, and he devises a rescue plan.

There are some weird and somewhat annoying characters in this including Spanky (Deobia Oparei) and the main villain, Alexsie Kutchinov (Pete Lee-Wilson). I liked Tamzin Outhwaite who plays Sgt. Kelly Anders; she reluctantly teams up with Jack Tuliver (Snipes) after he saves her life.

There re a few enjoyable action scenes (even if the stunt driver during the car chase is notably different looking from Snipes). The finale when he enters the villain’s compound is where it goes into 80’s action movie mode and is a lot of fun. The “twist” is predictable from early on and Snipes has done plenty of other, better movies.

As I always say even when the films aren’t amazing Snipes never phones it in and is still entertaining despite the film’s flaws.

Overall, 7 Seconds is hardly amazing, but it has a few enjoyable action scenes and Snipes elevates any material just by being there. It’s mostly well-paced with a couple of fights, explosions and a car chase. It’s worth maybe a rental or just watch Blade again…
