High Octane
Summary
For sheer balls to the wall action Angry Rescue delivers on all fronts aside from being an awful name for a movie. Tiger Chen and Qingting Wang are at their badass best with fight scenes, shoot-outs and knife fights galore making this an easy and action packed watch.
Plot: When his sister is kidnapped by a group of mercenaries in a war zone, Gao Feng, a former elite soldier, has no choice but to return to a life of violence. Accompanied by his former teammate and a mysterious ally, he embarks on an extreme rescue mission, navigating jungles, betrayals, and hailstorms of bullets.
Review: Last year we had Striking Rescue starring Tony Jaa, now we have Angry Rescue starring Tiger Chen and next year we will have I Can’t Believe it’s Not a Rescue (maybe).
Angry Rescue is clearly a bizarre translation from Chinese as it’s basically saying “I’m here to rescue you, but I’m not bloody happy about it!”. Don’t let that distract you though as this is quite an awesome action picture. At under 90 minutes it has some fantastically choreographed fight scenes, regular shoot-outs and hateful villains; they kidnap a group of doctors including the sister of Gao Feng (Qingting Wang) as they want a new drug known as Shin-Frost which can delay human aging. Gao teams up with Long Xiaohu and a ragtag team to rescue the hostages and stop the drug getting into the wrong hands.
There may not be too much in terms of emotional content and some of the acting by the odd supporting cast member is a little over the top, but the action in this movie is crazy and is what really makes Angry Rescue worth watching.
Tiger Chen is always very sympathetic on screen and he certainly has the moves in the fight scenes too. I did laugh whenever he chops the necks of his two colleagues to knock them out, so he can go in alone to save the hostages. By the time he gets to the boat they join him and don’t seem too bothered that he knocked them out. I’d be pissed and it would indeed by an Angry Rescue, but that’s just me.
This film is just a surge of adrenaline and wastes no time getting going and surely has a bodycount nearing the triple digits.
Overall, if you like your action movies fast paced and packed with fight scenes and shoot-outs (and who doesn’t?) then you’re going to have an absolute blast with Angry Rescue…. despite the awful title.
