Baby Assassins 3: Nice Days (2024) Review

The Best in the Franchise
4

Summary

Baby Assassins 3 is easily the best entry in the franchise with better pacing than the previous films and more action which is only a good thing. I still find the two leads a little annoying at times and the CG muzzle flare and squibs rarely convince, but this is still a winner.

Plot: We’ve seen them fight, we’ve seen them chill, but in BABY ASSASSINS 3, we see Chisato (Akari Takaishi) and Mahiro (Saori Izawa) at the apex of their skills as they take on a brutally nihilist freelance killer who aims to take their place atop the assassin food chain. Director Sakamoto Yugo and action director Sonomura Kensuke are back with the most exciting and dangerous chapter in the Baby Assassins saga to date. This time, it’s a fight for their lives.

Review: Chisato Sugimoto (Akari Takaishi) and Mahiro Fukagawa (Saori Izawa) return for the third entry in the Baby Assassins franchise which is easily the best yet.

Yugo Sakamoto also returns to direct and proves to be one of the most talented action directors working today.

Our two slacker killers have matured a little since the last film and in the previous movies they always came across as mostly invincible where we always knew they would win; however, they really do meet their match this time.

Kaede Fuyumura (Sôsuke Ikematsu) is the new killer on the block, and he is looking to build up his bodycount. It seems like Chisato and Mahiro may not be able to handle him so they have some help from Iruka Minami (Atsuko Maeda) and Riku Nanase (Mondo Otani). I like these new additions as I do find our two leads too shrill and annoying at times.

The previous movies had some great action but were let down by some pacing issues with too much time spent with the two girls sitting on a couch talking utter nonsense. At first it was cute, but it got old really quick. Thankfully, this time around the action kicks in from the start and for the most part the film ticks along at a decent pace.

The finale in the restaurant goes on for too long but I guess it’s part of the “charm” of these characters; one minute they are ruthless killers, the next they talk about cake or beef.

Where this entry shines above the other two is the action where we get plenty of fights, killing and shoot-outs. It does sadly suffer from the curse of modern action movies with CG muzzle flare and squibs, which really should look better by now than they do.

Aside from that this is one of the year’s best action movies with a final showdown where Mahiro has a brutal final fight with Kaede. It’s too bad Chisato is always sidelined for the final fights, as it’s Mahiro who constantly battles while Chisato lies unconscious somewhere.

Overall, Baby Assassins 3 is the best in the franchise with the most action and fight scenes to date. It still has some of the flaws from the previous entries like our two leads being annoying at times, but the pacing is better here and it has the most memorable villain yet.
