A Visually Stunning Fantasy Epic.
Summary
Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms has incredible visuals and music with an epic battle sequence to open up the film. We also get sword fights and some nice character moments between sons and their fathers which adds some heart to the madness.
Plot: Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms resurrects a mythic, legendary battle between humans, immortals and monsters that is said to have occurred over 3,000 years ago. After conspiring with a conniving fox demon to kill the emperor and seize power, King Zhou reigns as a tyrant so brutal that he incurs the wrath of Heaven. In a final attempt to save the mortal world from desperate peril, the gods decide to intervene and invest in an unlikely champion brave enough to challenge the evil king, even if it costs him everything.
Review: Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms is one of the most outlandish fantasy action pictures I’ve seen for some time with a tale about fathers, sons and demon foxes…
Packed with bizarre yet gorgeous visuals, it’s a wonder to look at and despite having a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes Creation of the Gods is incredibly well paced opening with a stunning battle sequence and rarely letting up for the rest of the movie.
There are several fight scenes including some sword fights and the finale has some huge CG monsters too. You’re probably expecting me to whine about the CG like I always do, but it rarely bothers me in a fantasy movie such as this. I know Creation of the Gods won’t appeal to everyone as it’s quite bonkers and even I lost track of what was going on at times, but I still had a fun time here.
The music score is epic and even has a memorable main theme elevating the imaginative action scenes.
At times I struggled to figure out who the main protagonist was as there are so many characters which made it hard to actually care about anyone, but at least King Zhou was hateful enough as the film’s villain.
It’s very much open for a sequel with various story threads unresolved, but as this literally is called Creation of the Gods I then it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Overall, Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms is a feast for the eyes and ears with some incredibly imaginative ideas; it gets a little confusing at times regarding the characters as there are so many, but I just allowed myself to get swept up with it and enjoyed some genre bending filmmaking.
