Entertaining One-time Watch
Summary
Exterritorial has some brutal fight scenes and is mostly well paced; I do find mystery stories don’t usually warrant repeat viewings which is the case here and there is no big action scene at the end making it a little underwhelming. It’s still entertaining and Dougray Scott shines as the potential villain.
Plot: When a soldier’s son vanishes at a US consulate, she illegally remains on the premises to search for him, unknowingly entangling herself in a dangerous conspiracy.
Review: Next up on my Netflix watchlist was Exterritorial; a German action film where an ex-solider called Sara Wulf (Jeanne Goursaud) and her son Josh are moving to America. They go to the American Consulate and Josh suddenly disappears. The seemingly kind Erik Kynch (Dougray Scott) tries to console Sara but is he a good guy or a villain? Throughout the film we’re wondering if this is all going on in Sara’s head as she suffers from PTSD which keeps us guessing.
On the action front there are some brutal fight scenes to keep things moving, however, the ending is a little underwhelming. This is one of those movies that once you’ve watched it once and know all the twists it wouldn’t really warrant future viewings.
It is still mostly well-paced, and Sara is sympathetic, having already lost her husband in battle. Dougray Scott is a revelation switching between accents and keeping us on our toes about whether he can be trusted or not.
Overall, Exterritorial is an entertaining watch with some decent fight scenes, but once you’ve seen it and know the twists, I doubt it’s something you’d want to watch again.
