Eye For An Eye 2: Blind Vengeance (2024) Review

A Superior Sequel

Summary

Eye For An Eye 2: Blind Vengeance is arguably better than the first film with tight pacing, gorgeous visuals, memorable characters and most importantly plenty of bloodshed.

Plot: After her little brother is murdered by a sadistic, well-connected government official, a young girl vows revenge and turns to the Lieutenant, a blind but highly skilled bounty hunter. Though he refuses to help the child exact vengeance and become a murderer herself, the Lieutenant grudgingly lets her stay in exchange for help with daily tasks. But when the girl suddenly vanishes, the bounty hunter goes on a furious rampage through the city in a desperate attempt to locate the child before it’s too late.

Review: I remember really enjoying the first Eye for an Eye called The Blind Swordsman so I’ve been looking forward to finally checking this sequel out. I’m pleased to say it surpasses the original in practically every way with an engaging and emotional story, stunning visuals and regular bloody fight scenes.

The Lieutenant is back and more surly than ever and despite his disposition he can’t ignore injustice especially when it’s a young girl looking for revenge after the savage death of her brother. Lieutenant wants no part of the girl’s vengeance as he knows how it can destroy you, but her persistence leads them down a path with only one outcome.

Tao Huang is wonderfully monstrous as the villain Li Jiulang who kills just for fun, but he makes a mistake when he kills Zhang Xiaoyu’s brother.

The story may not be anything we haven’t seen a million times before but I love the old badass with a heart of gold tales and the Lieutenant is a great character that you can’t help rooting for. Watching him mow down enemies with his sword is a thing of beauty and this movie’s bodycount is surely in the double digits at least.

At 90 minutes Blind Vengeance manages to tell a compelling story with memorable characters and plenty of bloodshed to keep viewers glued to the screen.

Overall, Eye For An Eye 2: Blind Vengeance is a superior sequel with heart, a hateful villain and regular jaw dropping swordfights making this a must see.
