Fallout: Season 2 (2025-2026) Review

Weirdly Compelling
3.5

Summary

Season 2 of Fallout will definitely be an acquired taste and if you say you hate I totally get it, but I still have fun with it and Walton Goggins is fantastic as ever. There are some enjoyable action scenes and gruesome kills too; I also love seeing Kyle MacLachlan in such an interesting role.

Plot: This season continues the story set in the wasteland of post-nuclear America and introduced New Vegas, a major location from the video game Fallout: New Vegas.

Review: Despite having never played the games, I’ve really enjoyed the TV series adaptation of Fallout on Prime. It’s one of the weirdest shows I’ve ever seen and at times I lose track of what’s happening, but it’s also very silly and never takes itself too seriously. The use of 50’s music adds a creepiness to it all and this series certainly isn’t short on gruesome violence. There are regular exploding heads, shoot-outs, explosions and cool creatures; the Death Claws look great and watching Max (Aaron Moten) face off against them in his robot armour is awesome.

I love seeing Kyle MacLachlan playing the villainous Hank who thinks he is doing the world a favour but is in fact a complete monster. His daughter Lucy (Ella Purnell) wants to bring him in to face justice however, he is her father, so she has that conflict going on.

I’m less interested in the Chet/Stephanie storyline, so I do tune out a little when they are on screen, but the highlight is still Walton Goggins as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard. He is the ultimate anti-hero and it’s when he’s on screen that the show is at its best.

At times the odd episode is a little slower paced, but it rarely goes too long without some form of violence or something/someone exploding.

I never thought I’d see Macaulay Culkin play a Roman-esque villain in a post-apocalyptic world, but I’m glad I did. It looks like he is going to have a much bigger part in Season 3, so I look forward to seeing what madness ensues then.

Overall, Fallout is one of the weirdest shows I’ve seen for a log time and yet it still captivates me due to the cast and some inventive action/kills. I think I prefer the first season, but this is still unlike anything I’ve watched before.
