It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since last year’s Toronto FanExpo and this year is one of the best to date as I finally got to meet one of the all-time great action stars, Dolph Lundgren. Dolph has starred in so many movies I’ve loved like Red Scorpion, Rocky IV, Masters of the Universe, Skin Trade, The Expendables franchise, I Come in Peace and many, many more. He still looks great and meeting him has been one of my goals for years.
As an action star you’d expect him to be larger than life, but he’s a surprisingly reserved individual who isn’t especially chatty. He’s thoroughly pleasant and we did talk briefly; I asked him if we could expect a sequel to Skin Trade, but he said “unfortunately not as I would have liked to see what happened with Nick’s daughter”. He signed my Blu-ray of Skin Trade and we talked about the screening we attended for the movie in L.A. at the Egyptian Theatre. It was an absolute pleasure to finally meet one of my heroes and he didn’t disappoint.
One of my favourite aspects of the FanExpo is the people you meet in the line-ups; one guy was wearing an amazing Hard Target shirt and I was speaking to a kid dressed as Ivan Drago. It feels like a community and we all just chat about our heroes and their movies.
