Mostly excruciating
Summary
I will always love Arnie and he is arguably the greatest action star of all time, but it saddens me to see him star in garbage like this. Fubar: Season 2 is painfully unfunny (aside from a few moments) and the characters are mostly annoying. It has some decent action scenes, but this really isn’t worth investing your time in.
Plot: FUBAR season 2 continues the action-comedy series with Luke and Emma Brunner juggling CIA missions and their complicated family dynamic. The season introduces a new threat: Luke’s ex-girlfriend, Greta Nelso, who is now working with a dangerous villain named Dante Cress. Cress plans a cyber and nuclear attack, forcing Luke and his team to prevent global catastrophe while also dealing with personal issues like the fallout from Tina’s betrayal.
Review: Arnie’s back as Luke Brunner in the second season of FUBAR which was recently released on Netflix. The first season was a mixed back so my expectations weren’t massive for this one, but I didn’t think it would be quite as awful as it is.
Season 2 brings back the cast from the first season and now we have the amazing addition of a pig called Hamsteak; you know whenever an animal is brought in for “comic relief” things are bad.
Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) also joins the cast as Arnie’s former love interest turned “villain” Greta with Guy Burnet playing her henchman Theodore Chips. The real big bad is called Dante Cress who essentially plans to turn off the power across the United States and trigger a war.
Monica Barbaro returns as Emma Brunner who is rarely actually likeable or sympathetic; she’s tough as nails and is believable as Brunner’s daughter as he wouldn’t raise someone soft, but I still never really take to her. I like Travis Van Winkle who plays Aldon, but he is wasted in the dumb pig sidestory which is never funny in any way.
So many scenes go on for too long dragging out any comedic value and I feel like you could have easily made this 6 episodes and removed every scene with Donnie and Carter as they are painful to sit through.
What action we get is not bad with a few good kills, some shoot-outs and explosions and the final episode has some tension; sadly everything outside of that is mostly unwatchable with prolonged unfunny scenes with terrible dialogue and some amateurish acting. Arnie does his usual thing referencing his other, better works like Total Recall and he does have a good one-liner after killing someone with a hose. Aside from that we get Temu Melissa McCarthy in Roo (Fortune Feimster) who just makes constant dick jokes and is about as funny as a root canal; at times we see the character has some intelligence, but she is mostly there for cheap laughs.
It’s a farce that feels like it’s written by children for children except with swearing and violence. Who is even the market for this series?
Arnie has made some questionable career choices in recent years when all he needed to do was make King Conan which sadly never happened and likely won’t now, but Fubar is one of the worst things he’s ever done. It teases season 3 which I hope we don’t get as I won’t even review it.
Overall, Season 2 of Fubar is mostly excruciating with terrible dialogue, but it has 2 or 3 funny moments and a few decent action scenes. All I was thinking was how did Arnie go from Terminator, Predator and Commando to this? It’s harmless enough and is there purely to entertain, but it needs far better writing in the future. Just go back and watch Predator again and remember when Arnold was the biggest action star in the world.
