High-Octane
Summary
Hunt the Wicked has Tse Miu and Andy On at their best with some impressive action and cool weapons. There is the occasional CG explosion and bizarre dubbing, but this is still an entertaining ride.
Plot: When ruthless drug kingpin Wei Yunzhou tightens his grip on the city, fear and chaos spread. Law enforcement has failed to bring him down—until Huang Mingjin steps in. Determined and relentless, he takes on the criminal empire, facing brutal enforcers and deadly traps at every turn. As the battle intensifies, fists and bullets fly in a relentless fight for justice.
Review: The trailer for Hunt the Wicked made the movie look like it was going to be an action-packed shot of adrenaline. For the most part it is, with a cracking (if somewhat confusing) opening sequence involving a corrupt professor.
The movie features several fight scenes, shoot-outs and imaginative weapons, which is what makes this an interesting watch. It is sadly let down by a few CG explosions, but they were obviously saving the budget for the finale which has some real ones.
There is also some wonky English dubbing in a couple of scenes which is distracting, and it would have worked better just keep everything in the original language.
Hunt the Wicked stars Andy On and Tse Miu as a cop and criminal who are after the same thing and may or may not work together to take down a drug kingpin. Both make for charismatic leads, and I love stories where two supposed enemies have to work together despite their differences.
The music score is loud and exciting although at times a little intrusive.
Hunt the Wicked is mostly well paced with a mild lag in the middle, and I wish there was a fight scene at the end, but this is still one of the better action pictures this year.
Overall, Hunt the Wicked is a welcome shot of adrenaline with some captivating action scenes; there is the odd CG explosion and dodgy English dubbing, but this is still a fun ride.
