Huxley (2025) Book 1 Graphic Novel Review

Top Tier Sci-fi Action

Summary

Huxley is an absorbing and visually striking tale with awesome characters and a story that makes you want to explore further.

Plot: At the end of 2021, as the world was recovering from a close call with its own cataclysm, Ben Mauro was preparing to unleash the dystopian sci-fi epic HUXLEY, which he’d been chiselling away at for the best part of a decade. Lauded as one of the most imaginative new properties to emerge in the comic space for a generation, the kernel of an idea had been crafted into a stellar graphic masterpiece that was the first small step on an ambitious roadmap through the cosmos. The next step is here.

Review: I don’t normally review comics/graphic novels on this site however, I was given a copy of the sci-fi action epic, Huxley a while back and only just finished reading it because I’m a bit slow.

It’s a visually stunning and compelling story that builds a world filled with memorable characters and creatures. There was a concept video released a while back (below) which gives an idea of what Huxley would look like in cinematic form and I would be there day one if this got a television series or movie.

Book one barely scratches the service of this new universe and I can’t wait to see what direction the story goes. It’s all about the rise of A.I. and how we ended up destroying ourselves so it may not sound all that original but the execution absolutely is.

Max and Kai are the two leads at first and then they discover Huxley and find out there is more to him than meets the eye. The Phantoms are terrifying Terminator-esque creations that scour the planet looking for energy to devour.

Overall, Huxley creates an immersive world with memorable characters, gorgeous visuals and a compelling narrative that makes me want to find out more.
