Plot: Vincent and Maya decide to escape their gang and settle for a peaceful life, but they are trapped into one last hit with hidden agendas, betrayals, and unexpected alliances.
Last Hit was apparently filmed in 7 days and was released last year; I’ve seen movies that have had weeks more time and not looked as good as this. It has a nice visual style and doesn’t look low budget, and the score is atmospheric giving a somewhat melancholic vibe. Mike Ferguson is our lead Vincent who works for a crime boss; he and his lady Maya want out to live in peace away from this life. As ever the boss isn’t happy about it and forces Vincent to do one last job.
Ferguson is well cast and is believably tough while also clearly adoring Maya; he will do anything for her, but she is no shrinking violet either. Played by former wrestler Twana Barnett, Maya gets to shine in a few fight scenes and can handle herself well. Speaking of which we get several fight scenes and the final showdown between Mike and his former colleagues is satisfying.
David M. Parks confidently directs and gives off Michael Mann visuals in terms of gorgeous overhead shots of LA; there is something about LA at night that always looks amazing.
Not including the end credits Last Hit is around an hour and 10 minutes long so it’s well paced and makes for an easy watch.
Overall, if Last Hit has a low budget it certainly doesn’t look like it with some stylish visuals, a decent cast and enough action to make this worth checking out.
