Great First Half But Fumbles the Ending.
Summary
Invasion has some impressive action in the first half but there is no big set-piece at the end, so it all feels a little underwhelming. At 90 minutes it’s still an easy watch so there are worse ways to spend a Saturday night.
Plot: When a rogue nation launches an unexpected attack on Curacao and Aruba, the Dutch military has no idea what to do. As the violence escalates, it’s ultimately up to three young marines to do the right thing and save the day.
Review: Invasion is a new Dutch military action picture that literally starts with a bang but ends up with a bit of a whimper.
The first half has some nail-biting action scenes as the invasion begins with a rogue nation attacking Curacao and Aruba. The second half is less interesting with our three leads trying to escape the jungle after rescuing an important diplomat. Then it just ends without any big action scenes; it’s very underwhelming and it felt like they used the budget for the first half of the movie.
It’s a shame as it has nice production values and the 3 leads were appealing even if we never have any real emotional connection with any of them.
The action is well done with explosions and shoot-outs including real helicopters rather than CG which is refreshing.
At 90 minutes Invasion is never dull, but I just wanted it to have a more exciting finale.
Overall, Invasion is an intense ride for the first half with some impressive action scenes, but the finale is underwhelming and could have done with a big set-piece, which sadly never happened.
