Explosive
Summary
I can’t believe I only just saw this movie and I’m sure my friend Franklin will berate me for it but K.O was awesome with a badass lead and some great beatdowns. One of Netflix’s better recent action pictures.
Plot: After accidentally killing his rival in an MMA bout, a man has the chance to make it up to the widow by finding her son.
Review: I’m not sure how this one slipped under my radar but I loved K.O. I find Netflix is at its best with international pictures and this is the perfect example.
K.O. is under 90 minute long, well paced and delivers everything I want from an action picture.
The story is straightforward but effective with a disgraced MMA fighter called Bastien (Ciryl Gane) accidentally killing his opponent; he has the chance to make it up to the widow by finding her son who witnessed a murder by a vicious gang. The gang in this movie is quite terrifying and I loved Foued Nabba as the demonic leader Abdel Manchour who is just a monster.
Bastien doesn’t say too much but is someone you want on your side in a fight and I was behind him 100%.
As with any decent modern action movie the highlight is the nightclub fight scene; I love it because Bastien gets beaten at first so it doesn’t go the way we expect. He then gets up filled with rage and destroys the nightclub bouncers. He teams up with cop Kenza (Alice Belaïdi) who has her own personal vendetta against the gang as they murdered her brother. The scene where two thugs make fun of her is priceless as she beats the shit out of them.
K.O. is never dull with regular fight scenes and a massively satisfying finale at a police station.
Overall, K.O. is a straightforward but brutally effective action film with some awesome beatdowns and the nightclub scene is a highlight. At under 90 minutes this is one of Netflix’s better action pictures and well worth checking out.
