Summary
If you’re looking for a fun diversion with some decent action then you’ll have a good time with Kickboxer 3. It’s a very different beast from the first two movies in the series but sometimes change is good.
Plot: David Sloan travels to Rio for a kick-box exhibition. There he saves two youngsters and stops a white slaver.
Review: This movie bares very little resemblance to the JCVD classic original but there’s still fun to be had. It’s the kind of movie where all logic is out of the window; I thought in the last movie David Sloan was like a reluctant warrior type who didn’t want to fight or hurt people. In this movie he has essentially become a one man army… OK.
Xian is now quite happy to blow people away with guns rather than martial arts, so the characters have changed quite a bit. David Sloan is a bit of a cocky ass at times too.
The acting is pretty bad but it has plenty of action and not just martial arts, but a few shoot outs as well.
The music is rather cool and the setting of Rio is a refreshing change; I love exotic locations in movies as it just adds to the escapism.
It’s well paced and it’s also essentially an early version of Taken as human trafficking is the order of the day. It’s always a good storyline because anyone involved needs to be badly hurt and plenty of asses do get kicked in this movie.
Overall, if you’re looking for a fun diversion with some decent action then you’ll have a good time with Kickboxer 3. It’s a very different beast from the first two movies in the series but sometimes change is good.
