Life After Fighting (2024) Review

Summary

Life After Fighting is one of the year’s best fight movies with Bren Foster proving he deserves to be a huge action star as he’s got the charisma and moves. It is a little long and maybe could have trimmed a few minutes, but I was never bored and the characters were well developed making this a must see.

Plot: A martial arts instructor is confronted with the disappearance of two of his students, leading him into a direct confrontation with a group of international child traffickers.

Review: I’m late to the party with this movie, but I couldn’t find it anywhere until it showed up recently on Tubi. Life After Fighting is written and directed by Bren Foster who also stars as a martial arts instructor called Alex who gets involved in rescuing young girls from human traffickers. I’d heard great things about this movie and it didn’t disappoint; the fight scenes are jaw dropping and Foster deserves to be one of the biggest action stars in the business. The final 30 minutes has him taking on numerous goons and it has some incredibly satisfying kills.

Foster is suitably charismatic and he makes Alex feel like a real human being that’s vulnerable but still knows how to take care of himself.

Luke Ford is one of the most hateful villains of the year in Victor who is an irredeemable monster. There are a few disturbing moments in the film too featuring violence towards children which are tough to watch, but it’s meant to remind us that this sort of thing is an everyday occurrence everywhere in the world.

It is just over two hours and does feel a little long, but I can’t think of anything I would have cut as every scene progresses the story and characters in some way.

Overall, Life After Fighting has some adrenaline-fueled fight scenes and the final 30 minutes is action movie heaven with Alex taking out the trash in spectacular style. It’s a little long, but I ultimately found it a rewarding watch and want to see more of Foster in some big franchises.
