Plot: Banker John Gray (Brian Bosworth) is hit by a car, and he awakens days later having lost his memory. He goes through the motions of his plush Arizona lifestyle but keeps having momentary visions of a violent past and a sinister figure he identifies as Thomas Payne (Brad Dourif). After his wife, whom he barely knows, is killed, Gray travels to Los Angeles and explores the criminal underworld, hoping to discover the truth about his identity — and to confront Payne.
Brian Bosworth and Brad Dourif star in this forgotten but entertaining action thriller. I normally don’t love movies where the protagonist suffers from amnesia, but Midnight Heat is an engaging yarn with Bosworth at his appealing best. His character John Gray is a banker happily living his life when he gets run over by a hit and run driver. He wakes up with no memory of who he is, but he starts to get flashes of his previous life where it appears he may have been a criminal.
Brad Dourif AKA Chucky always makes for an enjoyable villain and his character named Thomas Payne is a nasty piece of work.
This was made for television, but it has some decent production values with enough action to keep things moving. We get several shoot-outs and a final punch up as well as some awesome real explosions too.
It’s well paced and although not quite up there with Stone Cold this is one of Bosworth’s better movies that still mostly holds up.
Overall, Midnight Heat may be made for television, but it’s still a hugely entertaining action picture with an interesting story. Brian Bosworth was always watchable on screen and this is one of his better pictures.
