Los Angeles Comic Con 2023

Kicking off December holiday cheer, the Los Angeles Convention Center hosted hometown pop culture show, L.A. Comic Con. For movie location buffs, portions of Heat, Interstellar, Christmas with the Kranks and dozens more were filmed inside and outside the convention center. Situated next to the Crypto Arena, entertainment district LA Live and the Peacock Theater, there’s always something happening in this strip of Downtown.

Taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, LACC filled the cavernous halls of the convention center with displays and vendors, a beer garden, main stage and Artist Alley. Walking between halls, the photo op area was quiet on the abbreviated Friday night but over the weekend con goers could see, meet and greet with stars from the likes of House of the Dragon, The Boys, The Lord of the Rings, The Office and The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.

The West Hall housed the Gaming and Streaming stages while The Property Masters Guild showcased items from the likes of Oppenheimer, Jurassic Park and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A Back to the Future Deloren, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle van and Knight Rider Trans Am were parked nearby. Over at the South Hall it was toys, comics and artist alley galore. LACC trots out special guests on a main stage for all to see, which includes a VIP section for those who want to upgrade their tickets. Local radio station KROQ was providing the entertainment tonight with musical guests.

Loot from the show included a collection of Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon from 1992 which plays out like a terrific unmade action movie. A big green dude with a fin on his head with no memories of how he woke up in a burning field outside of Chicago. Dragon joins the Chicago Police Department to fight superpowered baddies, donning shades, riding a motorcycle and blasting away with giant machine guns. Too bad Stone Cold flopped, this could have been Brian Bosworth’s Spawn. Also grabbed a Jean-Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport pin from Made You Look Pins because you just can’t pass up JCVD in enamel form!
