A Fitting Finale
Summary
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is an entertaining send off for Tommy Shelby played to perfection as always by Cillian Murphy. The performances all round are solid and the story is wrapped up nicely. On the action front there are enough shoot-outs and explosions to keep things moving making this worth checking out by order of the Peaky Fookin’ Blinders.
Plot: Amid the chaos of World War II, Tommy Shelby returns from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of his family and country at stake, Shelby must face his demons and choose whether to confront his legacy or burn it to the ground.
Review: Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) finally returns in the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man which just hit Netflix the other day.
Set several years after the finale of the series, Tommy is now a recluse living in his mansion in the country while his estranged son Duke (Barry Keoghan) has taken over the Peaky Blinders. He doesn’t have the same respect as his father and at first comes across as a nasty piece of work, but is there more to him than we first see?
I don’t want to go into any more details in terms of plot, but The Immortal Man is as compelling as the Peaky Blinders series with Cillian Murphy as magnetic as ever. He is so good at playing a man on the edge and Tommy’s head is a mess (even more so than usual).
This was always a story about family, and The Immortal Man very much is as well. It’s too bad my favourite characters Arthur and Alfie aren’t in this, but Peakies was always Tommy’s story, and it all comes to a satisfying conclusion.
I would have preferred one more season just to spend more time with the characters, but this still ties up any loose ends.
There is far more action than I expected with several shoot-outs, explosions and even some fights. Tommy fighting with Duke in the mud was very well done and it looked like Cillian and Barry actually did that themselves which is impressive… and gross.
It’s all very somber and grim, but it still has the style and awesome music we’ve come to expect from Peaky Blinders.
Tim Roth always makes for a great villain, and he doesn’t disappoint here as a Nazi sympathizer trying to destroy the UK economy.
Overall, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is a fitting finale to the beloved series with enough action and violence as well as engaging characters to be worth a watch. I do miss Arthur and Alfie who were my favourite characters from the show, but this is still well worth checking out to see how the story ends.
