Revolver (2024) Review

Sleep inducing
2

Summary

Revolver has some nice visuals and decent performances, but it is screamingly boring with about 2 minutes of action in the entire runtime. I literally fell asleep watching it last night and had to finish it this morning. This isn’t one I’d recommend.

Plot: An ex-police officer embarks on a single-minded goal upon leaving jail, after serving a sentence for crimes committed under dubious circumstances.

Review: I’m normally a huge fan of South Korean movies especially action, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t massively disappointed in Revolver which has about 2 minutes of action in the near 2-hour runtime. The movie for the most part is screamingly dull, and I only really stuck with it for the purposes of writing this review.

I was curious to see Revolver mostly due to seeing Squid Game/The Acolyte star Lee Jung-jae however, sadly it is a very small role.

Our lead is Ha Soo-yeong (Jeon Do-yeon) who is just released from prison; she took the fall for her fellow police officers as they promised to set her up financially when she got out. Of course, they lied, and she now has nothing, so she wants to try and get what she is owed.

I was hoping this would result in her taking on legions of goons with her baton, but she only used it a couple of times. Most of this movie I was waiting for something exciting to happen or even an interesting plot twist, but to no avail.

On the plus side the visuals are stunning, and the framing of each shot is exquisite, which is the only reason I’d suggest anyone watches this film.

The performances were solid with Ha Soo-yeong being so restrained she could be checked for a pulse. The movie just feels like an exercise in restraint and sometimes I like that, but in this case, I was just bored and literally fell asleep watching it last night.

Overall, despite some decent performances and nice visuals Revolver is about as exciting as watching paint dry and not something I will ever watch again.
