Safe House (2025) Review

Predictable at Times But Entertaining
3.5

Summary

Safe House is the kind of movie I love where we don’t know who the real villains are or who to trust. This keeps things tense and there is plenty of action with Lewis Tan once again proving he deserves to be one of the next big action stars.

Plot: Six federal agents in hiding after an LA terror attack grow suspicious of each other as they realize the perpetrator could be among them.

Review: I’ve been looking forward to Safe House mostly because I’m a big fan of Lewis Tan who really should be the next big action star. I would have enjoyed watching this in a theater as I love tales like this on the big screen.

It’s a shame it’s been released to streaming which means it will likely disappear from memory within a matter of weeks as I had to search for it to actually find it.

Safe House also stars Holt McCallany, Lucien Laviscount, Hannah John-Kamen, Ethan Embry and Michael Bradway.

After a terror attack in LA, Choi (Tan) and a group of federal agents must hide out in a safe house as they are potential targets. None of them trust each other so the film is filled with tension as we wonder who the real villains are. To be honest, I knew who it was by the opening credits, but it doesn’t take away any of the excitement. I did find myself saying some of the lines of dialogue which were a little predictable at times.

The performances all round were decent but most importantly there was plenty of action. There are regular fight scenes where we get to see Lewis Tan at his badass best, as well as shoot-outs and explosions. It’s a tight 90 minutes and moves at a near perfect pace making for an easy watch.

Overall, Safe House is 90 minutes of pure anxiety with plenty of action and Lewis Tan deserves to be one of the next big action stars. It is a little predictable in parts, but the action is well done, and it manages to keep the tension up right to the end credits.
