Sniper: The Last Stand (2025) Review

Summary

Sniper: The Last Stand is another solid entry in the long lasting and entertaining franchise with Chad Michael Collins and Ryan Robbins as reliable as ever as Beckett and Zero. After the opening the pacing does slow a little and Arnold Vosloo was underused but the action in the second half makes up for it.

Plot: To stop an arms dealer from unleashing a deadly superweapon, Ace sniper Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins) and Agent Zero (Ryan Robbins) are deployed to lead a group of elite soldiers in Costa Verde. Taking an untested sniper under his wing, Beckett faces his newest challenge: giving orders instead of receiving them. With time and ammo running low, they must overcome all odds just to survive.

Review: I can’t think of too many action franchises that have lasted as long as the Sniper series and been as consistently entertaining. We’re on entry number 12 now which may or may not be the final movie, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Sniper: The Last Stand has Chad Michael Collins and Ryan Robbins return as Brandon Beckett and Agent Zero; this time they are trying to stop a terrorist (Arnold Vosloo) from unleashing a deadly weapon. They are leading a new team, so the first half of the movie is everyone getting to know each other and preparing for the mission while the second half is when the carnage happens.

It’s too bad Vosloo isn’t in the movie more as he is one of my favourite actors and always makes for an entertaining villain. This movie doesn’t quite go as planned which is always a plus as it’s nice to see a franchise try something different. Collins and Robbins still make for a great duo and although there is some humour and a few choice one-liners this is more serious as there are genuine stakes and we don’t know who is going to make it out alive at the end.

On the action front we get some brutal beatdowns, explosions and firefights delivering everything you’d want from a Sniper movie. It’s nice to see Beckett step up to be a leader and try to keep the team together when things go awry, but we still get to see him do his duty as a Sniper too.

I love how the movie takes place in Costa Verde which is a nice nod to the Val Verde universe from the 80’s/90’s. Does that mean these movies take place in the same universe as Die Hard and Lethal Weapon? I’m gonna go with Hell Yeah!

Overall, if Sniper: The Last Stand is indeed the final entry then they’ve gone out on a high with some awesome fights, plenty of shoot outs and objects exploding. It has heart too but the only problem I have with it as that I wanted more Arnold Vosloo who felt a little underused.
