Explosive
Summary
The Order is a bit of a hidden gem with excellent performances from Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, well executed shoot-outs and a sense of threat throughout. Well worth checking out.
Plot: A series of bank robberies and car heists frightened communities in the Pacific Northwest. A lone FBI agent believes that the crimes were not the work of financially motivated criminals, but rather a group of dangerous domestic terrorists.
Review: I’ve been meaning to watch The Order for a while as I’d heard good things, and it didn’t disappoint. Jude Law has become one of my favourite actors as he’s fearless and believable in pretty much any role. You didn’t even hear a trace of a British accent as he portrays FBI Agent Husk in pursuit of white supremacist Bob Mathews (an also fantastic Nicholas Hoult).
I love movies like this which are based on a true story, so all the action is grounded and real with a gritty feel throughout. We get several impressive shoot-outs and visceral heist scenes to keep us engaged but the characters and story are also fascinating.
At just under 2 hours The Order is well paced with Jude Law’s Husk a brooding and jaded FBI agent whose wife no longer speaks to him; his job is his life now, so he won’t stop until he takes down Mathews. Nicholas Hoult plays the charismatic leader of The Order, modern neo-Nazis who want to take their country back and he’s believably convincing and quietly menacing. We are never in any doubt that he is a villain and like Jude Law Hoult is at his best here.
I love the music score which is ominous and sounds almost like horns of the apocalypse which works perfectly in creating the atmosphere of the movie.
Overall, The Order is an entertaining action thriller with first rate performances from the entire cast and plenty of visceral shoot-outs. It may not be anything we haven’t seen before with a few cliches, but it’s still massively enjoyable.
