The Rip (2026) Review

An Entertaining Crime Thriller
3.5

Summary

The Rip isn’t as action packed as I was expecting, but it’s still an enjoyable crime thriller with solid performances from the cast. Scott has a smaller role than I’d have liked but it’s awesome to see him acting alongside Affleck and Damon. There are some impressive shoot-outs and twists to keep you engaged but it’s really a one-time watch like most Netflix fare.

Plot: A group of Miami cops discovers a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the seizure, making them question who to rely on.

Review: I’ve been looking forward to The Rip ever since I heard that cast included Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Scott Adkins. The trailers made it look like it was going to be an intense ride and with Joe Carnahan directing, it had to be a slam dunk, right? Well… kinda.

I think I would describe this as more of a crime thriller rather than an action picture; after the opening scene for the first 50 minutes there is pretty much zero action and if you’re watching this to see Scott Adkins have some fight scenes, you’ll be disappointed. He has a small but pivotal role, and I still love seeing him act alongside Ben Affleck and it’s great to see him working with a director like Carnahan. I’d like to see him do it again but hopefully in a larger capacity.

The Rip keeps you guessing with a few twists throughout as we wonder who can really be trusted. The performances all around are faultless and the action we get is visceral. There were a few shoot-outs and a fight scene towards the end, but there wasn’t anything that really stood out on that front. I find that with a movie like this once you know the outcome I wouldn’t be in a huge rush to watch it again but it’s still entertaining and one of the better Netflix movies of late.

Overall, The Rip doesn’t have as much action as I expected, but it’s great to see Scott Adkins acting alongside Affleck and Damon. The performances are all rock solid and there are some entertaining twists. The action we get is well shot with a few gritty shoot-outs, but like most Netflix movies I probably wouldn’t watch it again as it would lose the tension once you know the outcome. Worth a one-time watch for sure.
