An Entertaining Western
Summary
The Unholy trinity is an entertaining Western with some impressive shoot-outs and a great cast. It packs a lot into the 95 minute runtime and rarely slows down.
Plot: A young man returns to an old Montana town to reclaim his legacy. He’s caught between a law-abiding sheriff and a destructive stranger as old secrets lead to violence.
Review: I wanted to see The Unholy Trinity in the cinema as a Western is always best on the big screen however, life got in the way, and I missed it. I picked up the Blu-ray from Walmart last night and just blind bought it.
The Unholy Trinity stars Pierce Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Gianni Capaldi and Brandon Lessard and is a compelling and fast paced tale filled with unpredictable characters.
The story revolves around a young man named Henry (Lessard) who vows revenge for his father being framed. He goes searching for the Sheriff he holds responsible, but events are not what they seem and thus begins a journey to discover lost gold and uncover the secrets of the town of Trinity.
Throughout we are wondering who can be trusted with Sam Jackson nearly stealing the show as St. Christopher; he is of course anything but a saint as he tries to manipulate Henry and get the gold for himself.
Pierce Brosnan does another Irish accent but thankfully this is much softer than the one he used for Mobland and for the most part holds up. His character of Sheriff Gabriel Dove is a good man trying to do the right thing, but the townspeople think he is ineffective at upholding the law. None moreso than Gideon (Gianni Capaldi) who is trying to hunt down the person he finds responsible for the murder of the previous Sheriff. This is one of Capaldi’s best roles as Gideon isn’t really a villain but is pushed into violence as he tries to seek justice.
At 94 minutes The Unholy Trinity isn’t slowburn like some Westerns can be and it has plenty of action with some awesome shoot-outs and even a fight between Piece Brosnan and David Arquette. There isn’t anything too spectacular otherwise, but there doesn’t need to be as this is an engaging character piece with some nice visuals too.
Overall, The Unholy Trinity has solid performances from the entire cast, is well paced and has some decent shoot-outs packed into its brisk runtime, making this an easy watch.
