The Wrecking Crew (2026) Review

An Entertaining throwback to classic action comedies
4

Summary

The Wrecking Crew successfully captures the feel of old-school action with fun characters and some awesome action scenes. It is let down by some CG (especially in the car chase) and it’s maybe a bit too long, but this is still a fun ride.

Plot: Estranged half-brothers Jonny and James reunite after their father’s mysterious death. As they search for the truth, buried secrets reveal a conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart.

Review: I didn’t think people made movies like this anymore and I must say it’s nice to see an old-school buddy action movie like The Wrecking Crew. It would have been great to witness on the big screen, but seeing as the weather is so bad outside lately, I’m quite happy to watch this in the comfort of my own home.

Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa are perfectly cast as two estranged brothers brought together after their father is killed. They have their own personal problems to work through while avoiding being killed by the Yakuza and whoever killer their dad.

Filmed mostly in Hawaii it’s refreshing to see a film set in the sunshine again after so many movies with those ugly de-saturation filters. The script is witty with Momoa and Bautista trading banter like it’s the 80’s again. They are an appealing duo, and I especially think Jason Momoa was born to be an action star with his huge build and larger than life personality. Bautista is more soft spoken and they both play to their strengths.

At 2 hours The Wrecking Crew is a tad long but there really is some spectacular action here especially in the finale. We get some fantastic fight scenes and epic bad guy deaths, so the writers clearly understand the genre. The car chase is the only let down as it features noticeable CG and green screen, but aside from that there are some real explosions too.

The music score even features electric guitars which just adds to the classic action feel.

The ending leaves things open for a potential sequel which I hope we get as I just loved these characters and would love to see them wreck some more bad guys in the future.

Overall, The Wrecking Crew is clearly made by people who love old-school action and is a hugely entertaining throwback to classic buddy movies with the right amount of comedy, family drama and kick ass action to be one of the best made for streaming movies for some time.
