Those Nolan-Bond Rumours Just Won’t Stop

Rumours have begun that Christopher Nolan will direct Daniel Craig’s final outing while simultaneously rebooting the series.

Nolan was already favourite to direct Craig’s final turn as Bond, but now he’s also being tipped to reboot 007 after Bond 25.

Some fans of the series want the Batman filmmaker to delay getting behind the camera for Bond until Craig is done, preferring to bring back director Sam Mendes, for him to complete what he began in the current story arc.

Nolan revealed, during his press tour for Dunkirk, that he would like to reinvent 007, having spoken to current producer of the franchise, Barbara Broccoli.

Continuing a Trend

But would it be possible for Nolan to complete the current storyline with Craig, as well as reboot the franchise with a different star? The answer is plain and simply, “yes”.

It has happened numerous times, in fact, during Bond’s 50 years on film.

Guy Hamilton began the trend when he directed Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever, before continuing with Roger More in Live and Let Die.

The same thing happened when John Glen directed A View to a Kill, Roger Moore’s last outing, before taking the helm once again, with The Living Daylights, when Timothy Dalton was introduced as the legendary secret agent.

There was also Lewis Gilbert, who directed Sean Connery in You Only Live Twice later returning to the franchise to direct Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me, both starring Roger Moore.

A Long Wait

While Nolan has recently denied rumours that he has already agreed to direct Craig for Bond 25, there is always the possibility that he is playing it cool until official details are announced by producer Barbara Broccoli, who says that fans can expect to hear something by the end of the year.

So it sounds like fans just may have a long wait until the next James Bond instalment hits the big screen. Fortunately, for them, there’s plenty of Bond to keep themselves entertained, whether through watching the Bond DVD collection or playing their favourite Bond game, such as 007 Nightfire.

Some like to take it one step further and live out their fantasy of being 007 for the evening. Bond-themed nights remain popular, but then paying a visit to a casino in a tuxedo can be equally enjoyable. Of course, online casino sites, such as Nodeposit Canada, allow fans to live out that particular scenario at home (tuxedo optional). Players can fantasise they’re James Bond for the evening, without risking a penny, and with a no deposit bonus, to boot – all with a glass of martini to hand, of course.

It certainly sounds cheaper than putting a down payment on an Astin Martin, and it’s great fun to keep Bond and Craig fans happy until official news of Bond 25 has been announced.

More Rumours

Of course, it wasn’t all that long ago that Craig himself denied he would be returning for another outing, even when being interviewed on the same day that the news was officially announced.

Craig revealed the news on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when he apologised for hiding the truth during that day’s junkets for his latest flick, Logan Lucky.

A number of other directors have been rumoured to be on the shortlist for Bond 25, including Denis Villeneuve, who recently directed Blade Runner 2049.

Other rumours around the film include one that says the plot of Bond 25 will be a remake of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which saw Bond get married before his wife was killed by arch-nemesis Blofeld. We’ll just have to wait and see.
