Trap House has a few entertaining action scenes and Dave Bautista shines as always, but the teenagers are annoying and not very bright so this isn’t something I’d be in a rush to watch again.
Plot: A game of cat and mouse ensues when an undercover DEA agent and his partner learn that their own teenage children are using top-secret tactics and intelligence to steal from a dangerous cartel.
Review: *minor spoilers ensue* I’ve been meaning to watch Trap House for a while, but finally had the time while vegetating over this holiday season. Dave Bautista stars as DEA Agent Ray Seale who is a single father trying to protect his young, stupid son Cody (Jack Champion) from getting into trouble.
Sadly, you can’t fix stupid and Cody and his buddies decide it’s a good idea to start robbing a drug cartel because, what could possibly go wrong? They want to get money together to help out their friend Jesse whose dad was killed in action, but then greed takes over and they want some money for themselves. Strangely, this annoys the local drug cartel who want the thieves taken out.
This movie is only good when Dave Bautista is on screen as he plays a world weary father with ease while also being believable in the action scenes. We get several shoot-outs and explosions and Trap House is mostly well paced.
I hated the teen characters though and had no sympathy for any of them. It’s very much open for a sequel which is unnecessary as I found this was more than long enough to spend witch such mostly insufferable characters.
It’s an easy enough watch and I like Bautista in these kinds of roles, but I wouldn’t be in a huge rush to watch it again.
Overall, I can understand why Trap House went straight to streaming as there isn’t anything remarkable about it and the teen characters are annoying. I liked every scene Dave Bautista was on screen and there is some decent action to make this worth watching once.
