Mildly Entertaining
Summary
Trigger Warning’s main selling point is seeing Jessica Alba on screen again and it has some impressive action scenes, but there’s nothing that really makes it stand out in the bloated streaming market.
Plot: A skilled Special Forces commando (Jessica Alba) takes ownership of her father’s bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown.
Review: Jessica Alba returns to our screens in the new Netflix actioner Trigger Warning, but has it been worth the wait? Not especially. I was looking forward to it but it’s your typically generic Netflix film which you’ll have a mildly entertaining time watching however, you’ll have forgotten it by tomorrow morning.
The story is nothing new with our hero Parker (Alba) returning from overseas due to her father’s death; at first, she thinks it was suicide or even a terrible accident, but she soon finds out that all is not what it seems in her hometown.
It’s kind of like China O’Brien except without Cynthia Rothrock’s awesome martial arts skills; the action rarely stands out and there isn’t a single “f*ck yeah” moment in the entire movie. The pacing is sluggish at times and none of the dialogue is memorable or quotable.
Anthony Michael Hall managed to be suitably intimidating as the corrupt Senator, but I wish we’d got to see what happened to him on screen as he deserved a more satisfying comeuppance.
Still, it has its moments with Alba immediately appealing on screen and she does her best with the material but despite some decent fight scenes, it’s hard to believe she could take down guys twice her size. With the right training I suppose it could happen, Hell I’d get my ass kicked by a 12-year-old girl.
It’s an hour and 45 minutes and occasionally feels it, but at least it isn’t over 2 hours long so it’s a passable meat and potatoes action flick.
Overall, Trigger Warning is another disposable Netflix film that you may have a fun time watching once, but Jessica Alba deserved better, and I wish more of it stood out.
