An Entertaining Monster Mash
Summary
Troll 2 could have done with a bit more action, but the nightclub attack and final showdown are entertaining and the visual effects and music are top notch.
Plot: Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris leap back into action when a dangerous new troll awakes – and this time they’ll need more help to take it down.
Review: I go into some mild spoilers in this review, so if you haven’t watched Troll 2 yet then best read no further.
Troll 2 is a sequel to the 2022 Netflix film Troll (unsurprisingly) and brings back Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, Kim Falck as Andreas Isaksen and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Major Kris Holm.
After the events of the first film Nora has become a recluse living away from the world studying trolls and history. It doesn’t take long for Andreas to come and find Nora asking for her help as the government have captured and contained a troll. This isn’t a friendly troll and is angry at humans for what was done to their kind years ago; it begins a rampage around the country where no one is safe.
In terms of action there are a few entertaining moments including the troll attacking a nightclub and the final 20 minutes where we get some creature beatdowns and destruction. I feel like the first film is superior, but this still has some impressive visual effects and this is apparently the largest film production ever in the Nordic countries.
The music has some epic choirs too which helps to add to the sense of scale and is one of the highlights.
There is some humour in the script with some jokes working better than others and there are some predictable scenes especially for one character whose demise is guaranteed from the start.
Overall, Troll 2 is a fun time waster with some decent set-pieces although I wish there was more monster action and a sharper script. It’s worth a one time watch like most Netflix movies.
