Undisputed III: Redemption (2010) Review

Summary

Undisputed III is just utterly necessary if you enjoyed part II; the character arc of Boyka, the banter between him and Turbo and fight scenes are all superbly entertaining.

Plot: Boyka is back. This time he is fighting in the first ever inter-prison tournament with one knee.

Review: And so we come to Part III; Yuri Boyka is a broken man, now left cleaning toilets after getting his ass handed to him by George Chambers. He now has a limp after getting his leg damaged and any thoughts he had of becoming the “Most Complete Fighter in the World” are now gone… or are they?

This time we are introduced to Turbo played by Mykel Shannon Jenkins who brings a lighter touch to the story but certainly not giving any less of a punch. He can kick plenty of ass but his buddy banter with Boyka is hilarious as Boyka remains humourless throughout.

What could be cheesy works perfectly and it shows how good the writing is that you now totally root for the guy who was the villain in the previous movie. You want Boyka to get back in the ring and kick some ass again and finally earn his freedom. Adkins once again excels in his iconic role as Boyka And Mykel Shannon Jenkins brings a nice spark to the story too.

The fights are choreographed just as well as Part 2 and some big budget filmmakers could learn from Florentine how to shoot a fight scene. The camera stays still and we are actually allowed to watch the fighters show off their skills, which is always so much more impressive.

The music is again perfect for the movie and has some really pumping tracks during the fights.

As I’ve said before I love how in these two movies you utterly fear the character of Boyka as he is terrifying presence at first, but as the story progresses we discover that he is a man of honour and by the end of the story we are 100% behind him all the way.

Overall, Undisputed III is just utterly necessary if you enjoyed part II; the character arc of Boyka, the banter between him and Turbo and fight scenes are all superbly entertaining.
