Review: Yadang: the Snitch is more of a crime thriller than an action movie, but it still has a few fights, shoot-outs and moments of violence to keep things moving.
I love the character of Kang-su (Kang Ha-neul); he comes across as smug at first, so when he is betrayed and left crippled he learns some humility. He’s a great character and I was rooting for him all the way as his personality just jumps off the screen.
There are several twists throughout and the ending is thoroughly satisfying even if there isn’t a huge action set-piece.
I did find the pacing a little slow at times and wanted a bit more action, but it’s filled with tension as no one is guaranteed to see the end credits.
Themes of loyalty and betrayal are explored and the characters are all interesting which is what kept me watching. It’s also quite a sleazy tale with a drug fuelled orgy scene which you don’t see many of in modern Hollywood movies.
Overall, Yadang: The Snitch is a compelling crime drama with a few moments of violence, but it isn’t really an action movie despite what IMDb says. It’s still worth checking out as it’s looks great and the performances are solid especially from Kang Ha-neul who steals the show.
