Are We Still Getting RED 3?

I think the RED movies are arguably the best films Bruce Willis has been involved with in at least a decade; he almost shows that classic Bruno personality from old and they are also both superior to the last Die Hard movie.

I love John Malkovich in these films as it’s rare to see him play such a silly character but the biggest surprise is Helen Mirren who practically steals the show. She’s still sexy and badass and she totally should have been in Fast & Furious 8.

Shortly before RED 2 came out a third movie was announced; back in 2013 THR stated that Lionsgate had signed Jon and Erich Hoeber to write a third installment of the action franchise.

The screenwriting siblings also wrote Red as well as Red 2.

The 2010 film proved a success at the box office, grossing $90 million domestically and $199 million worldwide.

The last I heard RED 3 was set to be released on 2nd December 2016 but I’ve heard nothing about the cast, director or any other news for a long time.

If we do get a 3rd entry I would love to see Karl Urban return to the series as he was arguably my favourite character in part 1. This fight scene was pretty awesome too.

There was also meant to be a RED TV series on NBC which Deadline announced last year; they said “written by the Hoeber brothers, the TV series version will retain the core concept of the films but will be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, di Bonaventura and Vahradian executive produce.”

The TV series also wasn’t going to have the cast of the movies which begs the question, why bother? It was the cast that made them so entertaining! I can’t seem to find any recent word if the TV show is still happening either.

I think since the box office for RED 2 was considerably lower (RED Box office: $199,006,387/RED 2 Box Office $148,075,565) than the first then they have put the idea of a third movie on hold so the TV series may be all we’ll get.
