Jean-Paul Ly puts on his director’s hat for this action-packed short film entitled The Division; Jean-Paul Ly also stars alongside Laurent Plancel.
Jean-Paul posted some details on his Facebook about the film:
“It is my first time directing, writing and editing.
I’ve also action directed, designed and choreographed this episode.
With Law Plancel, we decided to tell the stories we wanted to watch. So with our own tiny budget and no external financial support, we produced our film, also with very little resources: no 1st AD (!), no Make Up and Costume depts, no Location Manager, Catering was our own etc
We had help for our DP (Sam Walker and Jordan Ford), Stunt Performers, VFX, ADs etc
We decided to go with a full length time episode, telling the story of a special unit investigating on a terrorist attack :
“Set throughout the course of one day in London after the bombing of the national museum, Jake and Lance, members of the Terrorist Unit Division, strive to save the city from terrorist attacks in a race against time and corruption. They are facing Sergei, an old enemy who might know more about the attack than it seems.”
This episode stands as a prequel for a full length feature film (currently in development), showcasing a unique and distinctive action design from and for a UK production.
I would like to thank every single person who took their time helping us: from our actors, to the amazing stunt performers who rocked the show, the VFX supervisors/artists, props etc. And our friends.
It’s our humble beginning and we can only go higher. But with determination, vision and focus, we’ll do it!
