Exit Wounds (2001) Review

Verdict
3.5

Summary

Exit Wounds is a pretty kick ass little action movie with plenty for us fans to enjoy. Worth seeing for Seagal laughing at himself.

Plot: Orin Boyd, a tough cop in an inner-city precinct discovers a web of dirty cops and corruption.

Review: This is quite an underrated Steven Seagal actioner as it’s really more of an action comedy, with Seagal clearly making fun of himself. He even has a great visual gag about his weight. Seagal always plays characters with hilarious names and Orin Boyd is definitely one of the very best. I have never in my life met anyone with a name like that, which makes it all the more entertaining.

It’s got a great cast including Michael Jai White, DMX and Tom Arnold; Arnold is actually pretty funny in it too, although he is sometimes annoying. Michael Jai White is always awesome and he plays the villain in this movie. I might add that he has one of the most spectacular bad guy deaths of all time.

There was a period in the early 2000’s where DMX was starring in a bunch of action movies and then he kinda disappeared. I found him pretty likable too, so I hope he come back and makes some more old-school action movies.

Although some of the action is done using obvious wire-work, etc the fight scenes are overall pretty decent and there’s plenty of action to keep the pace going. The script is very entertaining and the movie just has a great sense of fun. It does have the feel of cashing in on The Matrix success with the wire-work, but story-wise it’s utterly different.

I’m pleased to say that it does have a strip-club scene in it which is essential for any decent action movie and there’s a great fight scene in it too.

Overall, Exit Wounds is a pretty kick ass little action movie with plenty for us fans to enjoy. Worth seeing for Seagal laughing at himself.
