John Woo to Direct Lupita Nyong’o in The Killer Remake

Let fan outrage begin in 3… 2… 1…

A remake of John Woo’s classic The Killer has been on the cards for many years but now it looks like it’s finally happening with John Woo set to direct once again but with Lupita Nyong’o attached to star.

In the original movie Chow Yun-Fat played an assassin who accidentally damages the eyes of a singer (portrayed by Sally Yeh). The two fall in love, and he decides to perform one last hit in order to pay for a corneal transplant to prevent her from going blind.

According to Variety “Nyong’o will portray the assassin in what the studio is calling a re-imagination of the original movie. She recently starred in “Black Panther” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and won an Oscar for best supporting actress for “12 Years a Slave.”

It’s certainly a bold new direction but frankly not much of a surprise with most movies being more female-centric now so we shall see if it is any good; the fact that Woo is returning to direct is interesting so I’m intrigued…
