Summary
Rapid Action is pleasingly short and has several fight scenes however, they are sadly let down by wirework which totally takes you out of the action.
Plot: Following his wife’s death, Gao Feng lives peacefully with his son until his former boss reappears, forcing him back into the security industry.
Review: I had never even heard of this movie until it popped up on my YouTube feed the other day, so I figured I would give it a watch.
It stars Hongxiang Wang (or Wang Hong Xiang) as Gao Feng, a bodyguard who blames himself for his wife’s death. After several years he is tasked with protecting a young girl who is as you’d expect difficult, making it feel like the kind of story we’ve seen many times before. It’s a story of betrayal but is mostly predictable and quite forgettable.
Rapid Action is under 90 minutes and mostly moves along at a decent pace, but it’s let down by stupid fight scenes. I use that term because Gao Feng can leap up balconies like a superhero and there is obvious wirework at times. Why? This is meant to be set in the real world! I understand wirework in fantasy movies, but in a movie like this it totally takes me out of it.
The acting isn’t the greatest although I do like Hongxiang Wang as Gao Feng who plays the stoic badass well and the villains were hateful enough.
Overall, Rapid Action is an easy watch coming it at under 90 minutes and it has plenty of fights, but it’s let down by pointless wirework and some dodgy acting too.
