Plot: Sean Kane is a San Francisco cop whose partner is murdered by an Oriental drug ring. When his superiors takes him off the case, Kane quits his job and sets out to exact revenge.
An Eye for an Eye is another Chuck Norris film I’ve really grown to appreciate more over the years. Chuck is as ever an appealing lead as he searches for the people responsible for killing his friend and partner. The trail leads him to television executive, Morgan Canfield (Christopher Lee) who is smuggling heroin on the side.
Lee is a little underused and I feel like I didn’t get to hate him enough as he didn’t really do much until the second half. In terms of physical threat to Norris here it’s Professor Toru Tanaka as the imaginativley named The Professor.
They have a satisfying showdown at the end; however, I was distracted by how nice Christopher Lee’s lair was; I hated how they kept destroying it during the finale with gunfire as there was a lovely bar and carpet. I wonder if it’s still on the market…
Anyway, the supporting cast includes Mako who joins Norris on his rampage of revenge and Richard Roundtree as Captain Stevens who may or may not be a villain; he was always magnetic on screen and it’s awesome just to see him and Norris share the screen together.
Matt Clark (who also passed away the same week as Norris) plays Kane’s friend who helps him throughout… although is he really to be trusted?
Although the music is dated sounding today, it’s still cool and has a 70’s vibe despite being from the early 80s. It works for the movie especially when Chuck is driving around in his 1973 Pontiac Trans Am which was a beautiful vehicle.
On the action front we of course get plenty of fight scenes and shoot-outs. The film also has a sense of humour with a few one-liners too.
Overall, An Eye for an Eye is of the time, but I love that as it has a grittiness to it that keeps everything grounded. Chuck is sans beard or mustache here, but he still is cool and you can never go wrong with Christopher Lee on villain duties. I just wish he had a little more screentime.
