Revisiting Future Kick (1991) with Don “The Dragon” Wilson

Plot: On Earth in the not too distant future, Don “The Dragon” Wilson takes on a sinister corporation that trades in black market human body parts.

Don ”The Dragon” Wilson stars in the post-apocalyptic actioner which has elements of Blade Runner, Total Recall and Terminator (especially the rather cool poster). Future Kick is well paced clocking in at just under 80 minutes and has that wonderful 90’s aesthetic that I love so much.

It has regular fight scenes with Wilson as badass as ever, but it also has a decent supporting cast too including Meg Foster (not playing a villain for once) and the late, great Chris Penn.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many strip club scenes in an action movie before; that’s not a complaint obviously, but this film is packed with nudity which is an extra point in its favour as we don’t get to see much in today’s movies.

Future Kick isn’t short on violence either with a villain who carries a tri-bladed weapon that he skewers his victims with giving an almost slasher vibe at times.

The music score has hints of Total Recall in parts so the film definitely feels like a bit of a hodgepodge of other films, but it’s still a fun ride.

I have to admit that I don’t love the ending; I hate stories which end this way as it feels like a cop out and that the entire thing was a waste of time.

Overall, Future Kick has Don Wilson delivering the ass kicking goods and the blissfully short runtime makes this an easy watch with plenty of nudity and violence for all the family.
