Revisiting Prophet (1998) with Don “The Dragon” Wilson

Plot: A CIA operative is tasked with finding and apprehending five members of a terrorist organisation, but they keep getting killed before he can bring them in.

Tubi once again reminds me of a film I totally forgot existed, this time the film is Prophet starring Don “The Dragon” Wilson.

In Prophet (AKA The Capitol Conspiracy) Don plays CIA Agent Jarrid Maddox who is trying to bring in members of a terrorist organization however, they refuse to cooperate because they keep getting killed before Maddox can bring them in. What ensues is 83 minutes of fight scenes and shoot-outs leading up to a rather awesome finale on a train. There are some impressive stunts here and it looks like Wilson himself is hanging off the train for real.

I love the opening scene where Maddox and his team are trying to catch a criminal in the act, but it ends up being a trap with an exploding baby carriage which is wonderfully silly.

It’s well paced never going more than a few minutes before faces are punched and Wilson is as likeable as ever. The relationship Maddox has with his father adds a bit more of an emotional dynamic as they have a complicated history.

In terms of flaws, it’s predictable stuff about who the real villains are and I wasn’t convinced by Barbara Steele’s performance as Agent Oakley, but I’ve seen worse.

Keep an eye out for director Fred Olen Ray and Art Camacho who both have cameos.

Overall, Prophet is a fast paced and action packed 83 minutes; it never outstays its welcome add delivered what I wanted from it making it an easy watch.
