To Bee or Not to Bee? Does The Beekeeper (2024) Deserve a Sequel?

2024 has started off well for the action genre with Jason Statham recently conquering the international box office with his latest R rated action movie The Beekeeper; it surpassed $100 Million worldwide and is also number one in the US. This is an encouraging sign for the genre and shows that audiences still enjoy people being punched in the face.

In case you don’t know already, The Beekeeper is about one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance as he takes on national stakes after it’s revealed he’s a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.

The big question is, should we leave it at one movie or do we smell franchise?

Personally, I think the character of Adam Clay is interesting enough and the whole idea of The Beekeepers could easily be explored for at least another movie or two. On the flip-side, if we just got the one movie that wouldn’t be so bad as not everything has to be a franchise. I just feel that this is such a cool concept that I want to see more of Clay dispensing brutal justice to those who deserve it.

I think the reason the first movie has really gelled with audiences is that fact that the villains are scammers who prey on the weak in society like the elderly which makes them hateful scum, deserving of everything they get.

Maybe for a sequel we could get more of Jeremy Irons character out for revenge against Clay and other Beekeepers start getting killed off one by one. I don’t know though, this is just me making this up as I write this.

What do you think? Would you watch a sequel to the Beekeeper or should we just leave it at the one movie?
