Top Gun: Maverick Casting Update

I forgot we had the belated Top Gun sequel coming out next year; no doubt Tom Cruise will learn to fly the fight jets himself then build an aircraft carrier out of toilet paper and punch the moon in the face if his dedication to stunts in the Mission: Impossible series is anything to go by.

Anyway, Deadline has announced a few new cast additions including Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation), and Monica Barbaro (The Good Cop) are being set to join the ensemble opposite Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller.

The script was written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with Cruise and Skydance’s David Ellison.

McKenzie will be the daughter of Connelly’s character and Parnell, will play an admiral. Ellis, Ramirez and Barbaro will all play pilots with Salahuddin playing an engineer,.

It’s being directed by Joseph Kosinski who helmed Tom Cruise’s Oblivion which was visually stunning as well as Tron: Legacy so consider me excited for this one.

Top Gun: Maverick is slated for release July 12, 2019.
